For the 2005-06 academic year, Uppsala University in Sweden invited specialists in Turkic and Iranian languages as fellows-in-residence, and at the end of the year, hosted a workshop and a symposium on stages of Turkic-Iranian contacts from pre-Islamic times until various periods of the Islamic era, particularly the emergence and development of Iranian and Turkic varieties.
